We have a cunning plan!
Back in December, Julie polled the three other Watchers on what British comedy she should give a try over the holiday period – the answer was unanimous: Blackadder.
Fast forward a few months. We were on hiatus, following the loss of our co-host, Don. We started talking about making our comeback, and decided to do start with something to test out the new dynamic among the three of us. Rather than do some Doctor Who, we chose something that we could get away with not releasing if it didn’t work out, and the decision was made to talk about Blackadder.

After over seven months since it was originally recorded, we finally bring you our episode in which we discuss the canon-busting story that The Brain of Morbius! Recorded before our brother Don passed away, we truly believe that this is one of our best episodes to date, featuring some absolutely spectacular conversation, and really does mark a special way for us to come back from a long hiatus.

This episode, we’re tackling a fan favourite. Coming in at the 7th best Doctor Who serial of all time in Doctor Who Magazine’s 2009 Mighty 200 Poll and at 8th in their 2013 50th Anniversary Poll, it’s safe to say that Pyramids of Mars has an excellent reputation… but will the Watchers agree?
Along the way, Anthony talks of childhood head-canon, Julie gets increasingly concerned with the number of shoulder-rubs-of-death™, Don admires Marcus’ cheekbones, and Reilly gets excited about the return of the country yokel trope. We’re off to the edges of the known universe in a quest for a new power source, as we discuss Planet of Evil! And, oh dear! Season 13 started SO WELL last episode, and (spoilers) goes downhill SO quickly this time around. Le sigh. At least the music’s on point this time around…
Along the way, Julie declares a strong dislike for all men whose names start with the letter “s”; Don explains why if he could re-make any Doctor Who story, it would be this one; Reilly expresses concerns over the mismatch between the sets and the tone; and something went wrong with Anthony’s original recording, and he had to overdub almost all of his dialogue, much like the jungle scenes in this story. The entire team spends the entire episode absolutely slating this serial.
