It’s a seasonal bonus episode of Watchers in the FEAR Dimension, as Reilly rallies the crew to discuss two classic horror films featuring stars from Doctor Who – The Omen (featuring Patrick Troughton) and the Amicus anthology The House That Dripped Blood (featuring Jon Pertwee and Peter Cushing).
Along the way, Julie plays true to type as “the musical one” and expresses a love for scores by Jerry Goldsmith, Don struggles to understand how so many men could fall in love with a non-so-attractive waxwork, Anthony talks about goofy-looking vampires, and Reilly does his best Cryptkeeper impression. The entire crew discuss whether Pertwee could ever be cast as a vampire in a non-comedic way.

Peace conferences! Lobotomy by alien brain parasite! Prison takeovers! Chemical missile theft! More disguises! It’s all in a day’s work for the UNIT folks, as we discuss The Master’s second outing on Doctor Who in The Mind of Evil.
Over the course of the episode, Reilly finds himself a new favourite member of the UNIT team, Julie plays Yates off against Benton, Anthony questions why UNIT are on security duty for a peace conference, and Don is pleased at the avoidance of the “horrible boss” trope. It’s a bonus episode of Watchers in the Fourth Dimension! Recorded as a LIVE panel in conjunction with DragonCon’s Brittrack for DragonCon Goes Virtual 2021, we bring you our discussion on Doctor Who: The Early Years - a beginners’ guide to the first two Doctors, broken up into six episodes, much like many of the serials of the 1960s:
Episode 1: The Quest for Time – we discuss how New Series fans can discover the Classic Series, and some of the entry points into it.
Episode 2: The Changing Face of _______ – the Watchers sum up the personalities of first two Doctors and compare them to their modern successors.
Episode 3: The Children of Time – our panel discusses the role of the companions in early Doctor Who, how that role changes through the years, and once again, compares them to their modern successors.
Episode 4: The Evolution of the Daleks – it wouldn’t be Doctor Who without his greatest enemies! We look at their early appearances and discuss the phenomenon that was Dalekmania.
Episode 5: The Emergence of the Cybermen – with the Daleks being phased out, the show turned to a secondary “dominant” race of monsters. In this segment, we look back on their early appearances, and how the earliest Cybermen were brought back in the modern era.
Episode 6: The Recommendations of Rassilon – finally, we all provide some recommendations of highlights of the first two Doctors for newbies to the black & white era of Doctor.

Join Anthony and Julie as they discuss this story, bringing up subjects as diverse as the ethics of sentient computers, luges, body horror, inhuman screeching, and whether the Doctor’s always right. Julie talks about her professional interaction with bots, and Anthony applies some historical methodology to the script. Episode 67: Beeps, Boops, and Kazoos (Season 7 Retrospective)
Sunday Sep 12, 2021
Sunday Sep 12, 2021
Wow! Another season down, and this one has been wrapped up so soon – so, naturally, we’re embarking on our now-obligatory season retrospective. Season 7 was the beginning of a new era for the show – new Doctor, Earthbound storylines, and the consistent involvement of UNIT. What do the Watchers think of this brave new era – does the change in format pay off, or is it just Quatermass in Doctor Who cosplay?
Along the way, Reilly feels a strong need to act on his MORAL DUTY, Julie finds a way to talk about Jamie (even though he’s not in this season), Anthony comes up with a way to turn the show into Sliders, and Don espouses his love for Professor Stahlman. The entire crew repeatedly slate the music from Doctor Who and the Silurians.

Episode 66: Scr*w You Guys, I‘m Going Home (Inferno)
Sunday Aug 29, 2021
Sunday Aug 29, 2021
We’re turning into green werewolves and bringing on the apocalypse, as we tackle a much-loved Pertwee classic in the shape of the one-and-only Inferno! Will the team unanimously love this one, or as the season finale will it be true to form, consistent with the rest of the Season 7 seven-parters, with the Watchers split on their opinions?
Over the course of the episode, Julie ships Greg and Petra, Anthony ships Stahlman and the drillhead, Don complains about the return of his least favourite Doctor Who trope – the bad boss, and Reilly becomes obsessed with the prospect of green demons. The crew discuss the morality of not saving everyone’s parallel universe doppelgangers.

Episode 65: Vicious Quatermassturbation (The Ambassadors of Death)
Sunday Aug 15, 2021
Sunday Aug 15, 2021
This episode, it is our Moral Duty™ to take Quatermass homage to the extreme, engaging in some “Vicious Quatermassturbation” as we discuss The Ambassadors OF DEATH! It’s time for incompetent military forces (possibly including murdering scientists?), conspiracies, and plenty of model sequences!
Over the course of the episode, Don talks miraculously disappearing accents, Reilly finds that he’s unable to say “Taltalian”, Anthony gets nostalgic about UK Gold, and Julie laments the general lack of women on screen. The entire team discuss this serial's rather inconsistent usage of plot-selective radioactivity (or is it actually just good ol' Whitakerian static electricity?).

Episode 64: Costume Change Level: Zoe (Doctor Who and the Silurians)
Sunday Aug 01, 2021
Sunday Aug 01, 2021
This episode, we discuss our very first encounter with the other intelligent species from Earth in Doctor Who and the Silurians. Suffice to say that living through a pandemic, we all find ourselves somewhat triggered as we watch a deadly disease spread across England in this one!
During the episode, Reilly talks two-state solutions, Anthony focuses on the “otherness” of the Doctor, Julie gets offended by humans being repeatedly referred to as “apes,” and Don questions why the initial problem of the research facility losing power was considered a UNIT problem. The entire gang questions the wisdom of writing a dinosaur into the script and whether it was actually needed (spoiler: it’s not).
If you would like to watch along with us, this story is available for streaming at both Britbox US (https://www.britbox.com/) and Britbox UK (https://www.britbox.co.uk/). Bonus Episode 10: A Bit Pudgy for a Stormtrooper (Quatermass 2)
Sunday Jul 25, 2021
Sunday Jul 25, 2021
In this bonus episode, “A Bit Pudgy for a Stormtrooper” Anthony, Don, and Reilly take a side step away from Doctor Who and discuss the 1957 film Quatermass 2! This film has been cited as one of the main influences on Season 7 of Doctor Who in general, and specifically on Spearhead from Space.
Along the way, Don discusses how this film influenced an iconic scene from one of his other favourite shows, Anthony is surprised at how the critics were apparently unimpressed by this movie, and Reilly wants to talk about hats. All three of us ruminate on the more gruesome elements of the film, and how these might be amped up if the movie were made today.
If you would like to watch along with us, this film is available in glorious High Definition through both Amazon US (https://amzn.to/3iiMx4B) and Amazon UK (https://amzn.to/3ex8U54), and is also available for streaming on Shudder (http://www.shudder.com/).

Episode 63: Liberace‘s More Flamboyant Magician Uncle (Spearhead from Space)
Sunday Jul 18, 2021
Sunday Jul 18, 2021
We’re back - in glorious colour(!) - as we kick off the Pertwee-era with the very highly regarded Robert Holmes standard Spearhead from Space. Will the Watchers find this story as good as fan opinion would have it? Well, we’re hardly going to spoil that in this blurb, are we!? That said, there is a treat in store for anyone who enjoys Julie’s singing!
During the episode, Anthony ponders the potential for profane language from the UNIT troops, Don talks about how Robert Holmes introduces new lore to the show just to avoid potential plot holes, Reilly discovers his love of the new Doctor’s watch, and Julie fixates on yellow phones. The entire team enters into a love fest over Liz Shaw’s skepticism.
If you would like to watch along with us, this story is available for streaming at both Britbox US (http://www.britbox.com/) and Britbox UK (http://www.britbox.co.uk/). Sunday Jun 20, 2021
Sunday Jun 20, 2021
This episode, the Watchers look back on the extreme highs and even more extreme lows of Season 6 in their latest trademark Season retrospective, blending award-show style categories, qualitative measures, and questions put to us by our audience via social media.
Over the course of the episode, Don talks about the destructive impacts of the Quarks on their creators’ careers, Anthony gets himself mixed up between The Dominators and The Krotons (blame the 1990s VHS releases), Julie continues her Jamie obsession (knowing that this is one of her last opportunities to do so), and Reilly completely fails to accurately anticipate who everyone else will choose as “best regular.” Together, the team ponder whether they will ever re-watch The Space Pirates.

Sunday Jun 06, 2021
Sunday Jun 06, 2021
In this episode, we shed a tear as the end is finally here for the Second Doctor. We discuss the second half of The War Games, as the Games themselves come to their shocking conclusion, and some of the oldest questions on the show are about to get answered...
During the episode, Anthony asks how the Doctor has suddenly lost the ability to speak French, Reilly ponders whether Steve Jobs stole the War Lord’s style, Julie talks the differences between Jamie and Arturo’s treatment of women, and Don questions whether the War Lord’s plan actually makes sense. The entire crew discuss the extremely blatant sexual tension between the War Chief and the Security Chief, and how this devolves into what we can only describe as “hate squabbling.”

Episode 58: No Other Women in Space (The Space Pirates)
Sunday May 09, 2021
Sunday May 09, 2021
This episode, we bring to you our discussion of a story that is, in the eyes of fandom, one of the worst stories of all time. Seriously, in Doctor Who Magazine’s 50th Anniversary poll, it came in at 7th last. It’s also the last story to have missing episodes. That’s right, it’s the one and only The Space Pirates! Will we find it as bad as accepted wisdom would have it?
Over the course of the episode, Don questions the justice system of the time that this is set in, Julie continues to fangirl over Jamie, Anthony questions the decision to merge the pirate and cowboy genres and then set the whole thing in space, and Reilly gets the name of The Ballad of the Last Chance Saloon wrong and attempts to fix in post-production with some hilariously bad dubbing. As a group, the crew ponders the potential of a The Adventures of Milo Clancy spin-off.
For those of you who want to watch this along with us, this story is sadly missing – the existing episodes are available as part of the Lost in Time DVD boxset through Amazon US (https://amzn.to/3pea8s9) and Amazon UK (https://amzn.to/3pmd2em). The audio of the missing episodes is available as part of The Lost Episodes: Collection Five CD boxset, available Amazon US (https://amzn.to/3jl0H6p) and Amazon UK (https://amzn.to/3G7gq31). This is story is available to stream through Britbox US (http://www.britbox.com) and Britbox UK (http://www.britbox.co.uk).
